Last week when the 101st Airborne discovered nerve agents that were pesticides, Brig. Gen. Benjamin Freakly warned that the tests "sometimes show false positives."
Just like a certain general.
On Monday, Freakly, convinced his boys found mobile chem-bio labs, did a remarkably good Ari Fleisher impersonation, declaring "Initial reports indicate that this is clearly a case of denial and deception on the part of the Iraqi government."
The next day, after the equipment was inspected by experts -- that is, people who actually know something about chem-bio labs -- it was determined the discovery "does not appear to be weapons of mass destruction."
posted by dackDack, you ambitious enough to put together a list of "false positives" since the Iraq war began?
Posted by: Jake on April 16, 2003 09:49 AMwhen did CNN become Fox News?
the most disturbing part off CNN's reporting of this story is that in the second article -- the one entitled "Tests rule out suspect bio-labs" -- they *repeat* Freakley's initial quote word for word. No correction, no retraction, no nothing -- just the quote hanging out there as if it were a statement of fact when, in fact, it's just the opposite.
thanks, CNN. keep up the good work.
It's surely not exhaustive, but I'm trying to keep track of the issue. Any other leads welcomed!
Jake: I'd love to, but that's damn near a full-time job.
Posted by: dack on April 16, 2003 12:34 PMIf we cannot guard the musems(we know exactly where they are) and people loot the museums....
What makes you think we can keep the WMD(we have no idea where they are,if there are any) out of the "looters/terrorists" hands?
Posted by: bill on April 16, 2003 02:10 PMOff subject, doesn't the fact that there were not enough troops to guard the museum meen that there were not enough troops for this operation. Rummy said that the troops were too busy guarding hospitals. I am assuming he is talking about the 2 or 3 hospitals in Baghdad that still work. But the point is that even if we can kill a lot 3rd world soldiers with our transformative military or whatever it is does not mean that we can occupy a country with it. Remember, before the war, when Rummy said that a couple hundred thousand troops for the occupation "was way off the mark"?
p.s. You know how we call the Iraqi General Chemical Ali? Can we call Franks Cluster Bomb Tommy? Or what about Depleted Uranium Tommy?
Posted by: sam on April 16, 2003 05:26 PMSpeaking of guarding museums, why did we make plans to guard their natural resources (oil wells, oil ministry) but not their cultural resources? Should tell us about our priorities...
Posted by: Robb on April 16, 2003 06:46 PMfirstof all, this is not a free country. you can make all the asumptions that you would like, but i can gaurantee that that is not the case. we got health care issues right here in our country. but do you see these people who we elected to do the business of runnig the nation reaching out to educate the american people. the average american reads on the fifth grade level. are you fucking kidding me? they need to get a clue. don't get me wrong, i love my home, my country, my life... but man, we need to realize the truth as it is. there can never be any peace, there is no perfect government as long as there is a thing called government. it is a necessary evil, i know. i just think that we should all use the freedoms we are supposed to have... peace( if there could ever be)
Posted by: jeremy on April 17, 2003 01:40 AMIf only the CIA were better at planting evidence. If only they had an WMD expert that was better at explaining what chemicals to place where. If only...
