Reunited

Yesterday the CIA announced it has hired former chief UN nuclear weapons inspector David Kay to tag along with the Pentagon's Iraq Survey Group to "refine" the search for those darn missing WMD.

A staunch hawk on Iraq, Mr. Kay was one of MSNBC's talking heads during the war. Weeks before the CIA report on the trailers of mass destruction that probably aren't, Mr. Kay got some time on Brokaw's show, announcing with forcefulness that the trailers absolutely were mobile weapons labs ... even though his expertise is nuclear weapons, and he hadn't performed an inspection in over ten years.

Mr. Kay is perhaps less well known for his role in corrupting and de-legitimizing the UNSCOM inspection teams, by sprinkling his with spies, which was later exposed.

To quote Get Your War On, "Do you ever get the feeling that a secret game is being played in America, and nobody will tell you the rules?"

This morning I caught James Woolsey on the Today Show, speaking like a member of the Bush inner circle, proclaiming with expert certaintude that nobody lied about anything related to Iraq. The follow-up from Matt Lauer's stand in? "Thank you very much, James Woolsey" (I'm paraphrasing).

Anyway, I notice the PWP is making a nice comeback.

Sven, good on you for enduring the Today Show. Egads.

Why James Woolsey is on *any* broadcast these days is beyond me. Everything he says is wrong. He was wrong about Iraq was behind 9/11, he was wrong about Iraq being behind the anthrax letters, and he was wrong about the Al Qaeda-Iraq connection. He (and chum Perle) clung to the Atta-Iraqi Intel-Prague meeting until the very last minute ... until the FBI produced Atta's credit card receipts that showed he was traveling up and down the east coast at the time. Oops!

No one should listen to a single word he says.

Enduring the Today Show is not by choice, believe me. I try to close my eyes, but I can't resist Katie's sirenish voice.

Watching does help me understand why most people supported Operation Attack Iraq, and why they've already forgotten it. This morning I was treated to a videotape montage of teenagers beating the crap out of each other and other hapless citizens. Anywho...

Hokey smokes — Barton Gellman is, like, the anti- Judy Miller. Somebody hand that man a Prestigious Journalism Award. Thanks for the link.

No new information, but's its sure nice to see the issue seeping into the mainstream: "Burdened by proof"
