Yet another scoop by the Post.
Although Central Command keeps a running total of the wounded, it releases the number only when asked -- making the combat injuries of U.S. troops in Iraq one of the untold stories of the war.posted by dack
With no fanfare and almost no public notice, giant C-17 transport jets arrive virtually every night at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, on medical evacuation missions. Since the war began, more than 6,000 service members have been flown back to the United States. The number includes the 1,124 wounded in action, 301 who received non-hostile injuries in vehicle accidents and other mishaps, and thousands who became physically or mentally ill.
The Post article is really an eye opener, but what I find really odd is the press's inability to report the casualties on a day to day basis.
Spacewar.com reports "14 US soldiers wounded in Iraq over weekend" (http://www.spacewar.com/2003/030901160059.zes8a3mp.html). Try to find these incidents in the "deadwood" press!
On this explosive subject, see the 8/27/03 news show (Thom Hartman) archived at whiterosesociety.com, and alsogulfwarvets.com (re Josh Nushe.) These soldiers do not have "mystery illnesses." As the doctors say at the hospital in Germany (Landesstahl-sp?)--they have been exposed to toxins. The "mystery" is "What were they ordered to do when they were exposed!" Surely more will come out on this travesty?
